Since the pandemic began, have you been wearing the hair version of sweatpants? Kind of sloppy, moppy and not that interesting? With life returning to normal, it’s time to give your hair some more love. Of course, hardly anybody wants to go back to the hair version of stilettos. So here are some common sense resolutions that will help you make your hair look great without having to knock yourself out.
Look presentable. As your mother might tell you, this should go without saying. But it’s been a tough two years. So, make sure your hair isn’t unkempt or filthy. Keep your color fresh. Get regular trims to eliminate split ends.
Try something new. Go lighter. Or darker. Or pinker. Have your color done at a salon so it looks professional and you don’t miss any spots in the back. Or try a new style. Make sure it suits your hair texture and face shape so that you’ll be happy with the results. (For instance, layers work best with thicker hair. And if you have a wide forehead, don’t get bangs. )
Make things easy. Avoid styles that are high maintenance. Think twice about short hair because it requires frequent salon visits. Ask for a cut that will look good not only when blown-out and styled but also when air-dried and left alone.
Give up bad hair habits. Go easy on heat styling. Avoid overwashing. Stay away from products with sulfates and other harsh ingredients. Don’t use tight elastics.
Nourish your hair from the inside out. Eat plenty of eggs, nuts, berries and fatty fish that provide biotin, protein and vitamins needed for hair health and growth.
